Dark clouds gathered over the town on that particular evening.Â I remember it well because the street lights which usually came on at around 9:30 pm in the summer months, came on a good hour and a half earlier that evening. Â Night was now with us.

Then the rains came, and with the rains came the thunderous roar of the heavens opening with imploding flashes of light and darkness.Â Being home alone that night would have been perfect had the weather remained kind, but it felt like tonight would be a night where hellfire would let loose on earth. Â The fury of the storm, that sounded as though it was wreaking carnage in all directions, continued for what seemed like hours on end. In fact, less than half an hour had passed. Then the lights failed. The power cut and everything went pitch black for moment. I fumbled my way into the kitchen to sift blindly through the kitchen drawers in the hope of finding candles or anything else that could help me see. But I found none. Â There might be something in the garage I thought. But the lightning that flashed through the cracks of the garage door and the rains rasping against the front, sealed a fear deep into my soul. â€œRight!â€ I said to myself in the blazon darkness. Silhouettes and moving shadows flooded the front room of this old house as the lightning fired more shots. There was only one thing to do I thought to myself. â€œBedâ€, I then climbed the wooden flight of stairs. The windows on the upper floors of the house were shuttered off and although the downstairs was intermittently lit with the occasional flash, I could see nothing up here. I seemed to be heading into what appeared to be a cauldron of deeper darkness, deeper madness, as the storm raged on.Â Without a further thought, in a childlike moment of insecurity and fear, I held my arm out in front of me and ran into my room diving into bed. Â As I lay still, I listened to the howling of the wind. The whipping rains that it brought, thrashed against the sides of the house and the front of the garage doors.Â And then, as quickly as the rains had come, they had gone. Now in the complete darkness of pitch black, l was left to an even worse fear, a world of darkness and almost total silence. The old grandfather clock chimed once to ring in half past the hour. I couldnâ€™t be sure what time it was, but the sound of the ticking clock from the downstairs front room seemed to grow louder. That and the dripping water from outside, seemingly tried to compete for the vacuous silence within the house. Then , other sounds emerged as I lay still in my bed. I held my breath to make sure I could clearly hear the new sounds. They were rustling sounds coming from the garage. Â Fear gripped me, I couldnâ€™t move. What could be in there? Who? What? How? These were questions that began to haunt my mind. Suddenly, the silence was shattered by the eerie sound of the TV blasting into life as light filled the house once more. Power back on and the modern 20th Century seemed to blow away the old creepy uniqueness of the house. And at last I was filled with a sense of relief.Â But the noise,Â what was that? It had stopped. I decided to investigate the garageâ€¦

What color should I paint the front door?

Our home is built in the early 1960s. It has white siding. The garage doors are painted white and so is the trim and the front door and back screen door. The only color is the black wrought iron railing on the front porch. I can't afford to make a lot of changes but thought painting the front door might help curb appeal. I was thinking burgandy or black?
